Different treatments for different furniture
Before treating your furniture, it is important to consider the wood sort, material and finish. In case of doubt check the label under your furniture or contact the store where you bought the furniture.
Read the instructions carefully
Read the instruction that accompany your furniture and the ones that come with your chosen care product. The correct way to apply a care product can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. With Skovby’s own Care Collection you can find the right products for your Skovby item.
Appreciate Nature’s design
A tree used for furniture has often grown for more than 100 years. This means that each tree has natural knots, grains and structures which give each piece of furniture a unique expression as well. Keep in mind that minor variations in colour and structure are not considered flaws which require fixing or treatment.
Wood is a living material
Even after a tree has been felled. Wood is affected by humidity and temperature, which can cause solid wooden furniture to expand or contract. Protect your furniture by maintaining a stable and healthy indoor climate with a room temperature of approx. 20 deg. C and an air humidity of approx. 50%.

Avoid direct sunlight
Direct sunlight and heat can cause wood to dry out and lead to cracks and discolouration.
The more sunlight, the quicker the colour of the wood can change and cause colour differences. If the table is exposed to an uneven influence of light, you should move vases, bowls and the like regularly, turn the table 180 degrees once in a while and keep the extension leaves in, so that all parts get equal amount of light.
Use coasters
Use coasters to protect the surface against hot or damp objects. Do not use cork coasters as damp can pass right through and into the surface of the item.
Moisture is the worst enemy
Make sure any spilt liquids are wiped off immediately and that the tabletop is never covered with an airtight material such as plastic or an oilcloth for more than 12 hours at a time.
No sharp utensils
Always protect the surface when using sharp utensils on or near your furniture.
Avoid powerful heat sources
Heat can cause the wood to dry out and lead to cracks. Do not place your furniture too close to radiators or heaters.
